After Lives as Experiment Subjects, Retirement with Dignity
The National Institutes of Health officially ended all of its chimpanzee research last year. The decision
came fast on the heels of a 2013 report concluding that medical technology had moved beyond the need
to use chimps as test subjects. It was welcome news for animal rights activists, who have since been
working with government and private labs to find room for the hundreds of apes that need homes. VOA's Kevin Enochs reports.
